About Kanazawa University
The roots of Kanazawa University can be traced to 1862 when the Kaga Domain established Hikoso Vaccination Center (Hikoso shutōsho). Ishikawa Normal School (Ishikawa shihan gakkō), Kanazawa Higher Normal School (Kanazawa kōtō shihan gakkō), Ishikawa Youth Normal School (Ishikawa seinen shihan gakkō), Kanazawa Medical School (Kanazawa ika daigaku), Kanazawa Technical College (Kanazawa kōgyō senmon gakkō), and the Fourth Higher School (Daishi kōtō gakkō) were integrated in May 1949 to form Kanazawa University. Since then, Kanazawa University has been the leader of universities on the Sea of Japan. It has continuously and substantially contributed to the development of higher education in Japan as well as global promotion of research by offering undergraduate and graduate courses. About Kanazawa City
Kanazawa is one of the overlooked jewels of Japanese culture — although not by the Japanese, who visit in droves. Visitors see perhaps the best-preserved major Edo-period city in the country, it is hard to beat. Kyoto's offerings of temples and shrines are all very well, but Japanese history and culture is not just about them. The samurai, the merchants, the geisha, and the lords have all left their mark on Kanazawa in a compact, easily navigable central area. Kanazawa is part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Crafts and Folk Art. Kanazawa cuisine is famous throughout Japan, particularly its seafood since it lies in the sweet spot of the hot south and cold north currents. The quality of food is so high, that essentially you'll eat good food whatever the price. (from wikitravel)
